Don't you jus adore that smooth, cool, milky rich sensation you get when you get that first lick of gorgeous vanilla cream? It's like getting zoomed into a whole new dimension where the the fantastic tastes fuse together to produce this mind-blowing burst of fantastic flavour. Vanilla, the true essence of happiness.
Weird as it is, i prefer those nice, big vanilla cones you get from street shops rather than the ones from Scoops or Desserts. In my opinion, homemade ice-cream beats fancy cones anytime. For some reason, there's something lacking in expensieve vanilla ice-cream. They give me these itsy-bitsy little portions and expect me to pay RM6 for something i can barely even taste? No thank you.
Of course, that only applies to certain, stingy, ice-cream people.

Damn you Haagen-Dazs and your ultra expensive ice-creams. (and what kind of flavour is Cookie Dough Chip!?)
So far, the best vanilla ice-cream i've tasted in Kuching is from Everise. And they give quite reasonable portions too, for only RM1.20 per cone! See, cheap ice-cream doesn't mean bad ice-cream. Sunny Hill ice-cream is also quite good, the only problem is that they give them in tiny little scoops, abit pricey too. It's homemade though so it has a lighter taste than the one from Everise.
I, for one, like vanilla ice-cream to be rich. One of the few gourmet ice-cream places i like is Swensen's but sadly, they don't have it here. They have all these gorgeous towering temptations like our family favourite, the Coit Tower:

- tower of Vanilla and Chocolate ice cream, strawberry and chocolate fudge toppings, fresh banana slices and almonds.
Eating out at Swensen's is a MUST whenever we make a trip back to Singapore. It's usually one of the first things to do on our itinerary.
Mum: Okay all of you get $30 each.
Us: Ah!? Why so little?
Mum: We need the extra money to go to Swensen's! If you want more then we don't go. Okay?
Us: (gasp) $30 is perfect :)
They have these awesome flavours too like the authentic French Vanilla. I have yet to try it but when i do, i bet it's gonna be great. It has this beautiful cream colour that sets it apart from today's pure-white vanilla. That's how vanilla ice-cream should really look like! Mmm.. just writing about it is making my mouth water. The only problem is that my piggy bank's sounding a tad bit hollow after i bought that panda shirt for almost RM30. For those people like me who aren't big on saving there is another alternative:
Making your own ice-cream! :D
There are many homemade ice-cream recipes that you can find on the internet. Here's one i found for some of you who love rich chocolate ice-cream but don't have the moolah to buy an ice-cream maker like me. It's simple too : )

I'm still looking for that perfect vanilla ice-cream recipe that doesn't neeed an ice-cream maker. But for now, may all vanilla ice-cream lovers unite and spread the joy of this gorgeous mouth-watering, smooth, creamy, delicous, delectable and just oh-so-wonderful dessert.
